Be planted, not just scattered… Bear fruit
Proverbs 19-21/Matthew 13-14

How to get the most out of Hungry Bible

OT

19:3 People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the LORD.

:17 If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD–and he will repay you!

NT

13:23 The good soil represents the hearts of those who truly accept God’s message and produce a huge harvest–thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted.’

OT Flash Points

Better poor & honest than a dishonest fool
Lend to God by helping the poor, He will repay
Fear of the Lord results in life, security, and protection
A wise king finds the wicked and wipes them out

NT Flash Points

Seed = the Word
Seed = living Word, Jesus in people
He plants the seed of His Word
Those who are good soil become His seed to plant in the world
Problem: We would rather publicly walk on water than be food for the people of God

Perspective

Closet power
Eyes on God not on men
Establish an inner chamber where no one knows you are praying
God is not impressed with our earnestness
He hears only on the basis of the Redemption
The price His Son paid
Prayer changes us
Ask for what your will is behind, not on a whim
