How to get the most out of Hungry Bible

OT

13:15-16 Listen! Do not be proud, for the LORD has spoken. Give glory to the LORD your God before it is too late. Acknowledge him before he brings darkness upon you, causing you to stumble and fall on the dark mountains. For then, when you look for light, you will find only terrible darkness.

NT

3:15-17 But Jesus said, “It must be done, because we must do everything that is right.” So then John baptized him. After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, and I am fully pleased with him.”

OT Flash Points

I bound Israel to me like a belt but they would not listen
I will bring darkness on them & they will rot away

NT Flash Points

The Savior comes
The light that dispels the darkness
Jesus turns on the Light & deals face-to-face with darkness
Men who are looking for the Light follow Him

Perspective

We must distinguish for ourselves between good and evil but have no capacity to do so
God must give us the contrast of darkness against the light, judgment against blessing
That does not redeem us but only shows the inevitable futility of our independent choice
Then He dawns eternal Light and Life and offers Himself to us
Our choice again but this time an educated one
