How to get the most out of Hungry Bible

OT

Judges 8:23-27 But Gideon replied, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son. The LORD will rule over you! However, I have one request. Each of you can give me an earring out of the treasures you collected from your fallen enemies.” (The enemies, being Ishmaelites, all wore gold earrings.) “Gladly!” they replied. They spread out a cloak, and each one threw in a gold earring he had gathered. The weight of the gold earrings was forty-three pounds, not including the crescents and pendants, the royal clothing of the kings, or the chains around the necks of their camels. Gideon made a sacred ephod from the gold and put it in Ophrah, his hometown. But soon all the Israelites prostituted themselves by worshiping it, and it became a trap for Gideon and his family.

Proverbs 21:25-26 The desires of lazy people will be their ruin, for their hands refuse to work. They are always greedy for more, while the godly love to give!

NT

Hebrews 2:1 So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.

3:5-6 Moses was certainly faithful in God’s house, but only as a servant. His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal later. But Christ, the faithful Son, was in charge of the entire household. And we are God’s household, if we keep up our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.

:12 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.

Proverbs: The required pre-disposition is called “yielded-to-the-LORD”
That’s the difference between good preparation with hard work and just quick fixes

NT Flash Points

Jesus is the pre-disposition
He was authorized by his identification with us and our state of death
Which authorizes us to identify with Him in His life-after-death – NOW

Perspective

That is what is meant by “His rest”
