Driving out the pagan influences in your heart and house?
Numbers 33-34 /Mark 10-12

How to get the most out of Hungry Bible

OT

33:51-53 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you cross the Jordan River into the land of Canaan, you must drive out all the people living there. You must destroy all their carved and molten images and demolish all their pagan shrines. Take possession of the land and settle in it, because I have given it to you to occupy.”

NT

10:11-12 He told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and remarries, she commits adultery.”

:42-45 So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that in this world kings are tyrants, and officials lord it over the people beneath them. But among you it should be quite different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all. For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom for many.”

11:22-25 Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I assure you that you can say to this mountain, May God lift you up and throw you into the sea, and your command will be obeyed. All that’s required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart. Listen to me! You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you will have it. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”

12:29-31 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these.”

OT Flash Points

Borders of the Kingdom
Pagan influences must be driven out
Leaders responsible for distribution of gifts

NT Flash Points

Borders of the Kingdom
Divorce – irrational – outside
Child-like-ness – required – inside
Dependency – on God alone – inside
Most important people on the inside will be the least important on the outside
And visa-versa
The greatest is the servant
Kingdom authority is given to the forgiven, grateful servant

Perspective

The salvation of God is deliverance out of self entirely into union with Himself
We give ourselves over to God just as God gave Himself for us, without any calculation
The consequence of abandonment never enters into our outlook because our life is taken up with Him
