Nahum/Luke 17-20

How to get the most out of Hungry Bible

OT

1:7 The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him

NT

17:1 Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come.”

18:9-14 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men–robbers, evildoers, adulterers–or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

OT Flash Points

Nineveh, your time is up and everyone will be happy about that

NT Flash Points

Religious tyrants!
Your time is up and everyone will be happy about that

Perspective

The man who rests in a creed is apt to be a coward and refuse to come into personal relationship with God
Don’t rest in the Church, nor the Scriptures, but in Living Reality – Jesus
The Kingdom is not attained through understanding – understanding is attained by receiving the Kingdom
Jesus bought the Kingdom for you and gave it to you as a love gift
Rest in that and live accordingly
