How to get the most out of Hungry Bible

OT

19:25-27 “But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and that he will stand upon the earth at last. And after my body has decayed, yet in my body I will see God! I will see him for myself. Yes, I will see him with my own eyes. I am overwhelmed at the thought!”

NT

1:16-19 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes–Jews first and also Gentiles. This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, ‘It is through faith that a righteous person has life.’ But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from themselves. For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts.

2:16 The day will surely come when God, by Jesus Christ, will judge everyone’s secret life. This is my message.

:29 No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not a cutting of the body but a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit. Whoever has that kind of change seeks praise from God, not from people.

3:31 Well then, if we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.

OT Flash Points

God has wronged me, yet as for me I know my Redeemer lives and I will see Him
God is not interested in disciplining the wicked
That comes with the package

NT Flash Points

The real Jew: in this context, the real child of God, not a replacement for the nation
God has judged sin and turned the wicked over to their perversions
God’s child is the person who does what is right
God’s child is the person who has been changed by the Spirit of God
Whether they have the Law or not
All have sinned yet God declares us not-guilty through Jesus Christ’s work
We are made right with God by the shedding of His blood, as our sin-offering

Perspective

This is not “Replacement Theology,” but Completed Will & Testament
It is irrational to assume our dream of success is God’s purpose for us
His purpose is that I know and depend on Him now – Calm and unperplexed in the midst of turmoil
His purpose is for this moment
Pay attention now.  Don’t put it off
