Know what Jesus wants to do? Do that!
Proverbs 24-27/John 17-19

Tutorial for first-timers

OT

24:3-5 A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables. A wise man is mightier than a strong man, and a man of knowledge is more powerful than a strong man.

:10 If you fail under pressure, your strength is not very great.

NT

17:20-21 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me because of their testimony. My prayer for all of them is that they will be one, just as you and I are one, Father… that just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us, and the world will believe you sent me.”

19:5 Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said, “Here is the man!”

OT Flash Points

Singing cheerful songs to the heavy hearted is like rubbing salt in his wound
A person without self control is defenseless
Wait for invitation to have audience with a king or anyone else for that matter
Only speak to a matter when you’ve been given the platform and the invitation to do so
And then speak only what the Spirit says, how He says it

NT Flash Points

Here’s the Man!
Behold!
Afraid?
Pilate was afraid but not Jesus
Don’t be afraid, only believe

Perspective

Our Lord never patches up our natural virtues, He remakes the whole man on the inside
“Put on the new man,” ie, see that your natural human life puts on the garb in keeping with the new life
The life God plants in us develops its own virtues, not the virtues of Adam but of Jesus
Watch how God withers up your confidence in natural virtues and any power you have, until you learn to draw your life from the reservoir of the resurrection life of Jesus
Thank God if you are going through a drying-up experience!
