What does God think of our sin? – the Cross
Ezekiel 33-35/John 17-21

How to get the most out of Hungry Bible

OT

33:7-9 “Now, son of man, I am making you a watchman for the people of Israel. Therefore, listen to what I say and warn them for me. If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to warn them about changing their ways, then they will die in their sins, but I will hold you responsible for their deaths. But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will not be held responsible.”

:12 “Son of man, give your people this message: The good works of righteous people will not save them if they turn to sin, nor will the sins of evil people destroy them if they repent and turn from their sins.”

34:2 “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds, the leaders of Israel. Give them this message from the Sovereign LORD: Destruction is certain for you shepherds who feed yourselves instead of your flocks. Shouldn’t shepherds feed their sheep?”

NT

17:3 “And this is the way to have eternal life–to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.”

:24 “Father, I want these whom you’ve given me to be with me, so they can see my glory. You gave me the glory because you loved me even before the world began!”

OT Flash Points

Judgment is for those who determine to do evil
Salvation is for those who determine to do God’s will

NT Flash Points

God’s will to save, revealed to man

Perspective

Only through the Cross of Christ are we forgiven
God is not a human father
His fatherhood is not based on our feelings or sympathy
He is bound to judge sin – not forgive
Only the Cross, the Cure for His view of sin, could change our future
