Overcome evil with good
Psalm 90-94 / James 3-5
OT
90:1-2 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
NT
3:1-2 Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.
OT Flash Points
Replace the evil years with good. Make our efforts successful
The Lord is my rock
There’s nothing but goodness in Him
NT Flash Points
Not many teachers – greater scrutiny
The tongue is a powerful force – who can tame it?
Praises & curses come from the same well
It is sin to know what to do and not do it
Quarrels are motivated by greed and jealousy
If you’re intent on “living the high life,” you are no friend of God
Perspective
Prayer changes things by changing me and my relationship to the One who designed everything
